چکیده

In this paper, we evaluate the accuracy and robustness of intensity-based 2D-3D registration for six image similarity measures using clinical gold-standard spine image data from four patients. The goldstandard transformations are obtained using four bone-implanted fiducial markers. The three best similarity measures are mutual information, cross correlation, and gradient correlation. The mean target registration errors for these three measures range from 1.3 to 1.5mm. We believe this is the first reported evaluation using clinical gold-standard data.

Intensity-Based 2D-3D Spine Image Registration Incorporating One Fiducial Marker

In this paper, we propose a hybrid similarity measure for 2D-3D image registration that is a weighted combination of an intensitybased image similarity measure and a point-based measure incorporating a single fiducial marker. We evaluate its accuracy and robustness using gold-standard clinical spine image data. The use of one fiducial marker substantially improves registration accuracy and robu...

Intensity-based 2D-3D spine image registration incorporating a single fiducial marker.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES The two-dimensional (2D)-three dimensional (3D) registration of a computed tomography image to one or more x-ray projection images has a number of image-guided therapy applications. In general, fiducial marker-based methods are fast, accurate, and robust, but marker implantation is not always possible, often is considered too invasive to be clinically acceptable, and en...

A 2D-3D Registration Tool Capable of Accurately Quantifying Flexion- Extension Positioning in the Cervical Spine

Flexion-extension x-rays are almost exclusively employed to analyze cervical spine kinematics. Yet, 2D radiographic measures of key vertebral metrics used to evaluate cervical stability are limited by x-ray source beam divergence, magnification errors and off-axis image acquisition. Three-dimensional CT images can be used to accurately measure these parameters, however flexion-extension CT scan...

Progressive Attenuation Fields: Fast 2D-3D Image Registration Without Precomputation

Computation of digitally reconstructed radiograph (DRR) images is the rate-limiting step in most current intensity-based algorithms for the registration of three-dimensional (3D) images to two-dimensional (2D) projection images. This paper introduces and evaluates the progressive attenuation field (PAF), which is a new method to speed up DRR computation. A PAF is closely related to an attenuati...

Fast Intensity-based 2D-3D Image Registration of Clinical Data Using Light Fields

Registration of a preoperative CT (3D) image to one or more X-ray projection (2D) images, a special case of the pose estimation problem, has been attempted in a variety of ways with varying degrees of success. Recently, there has been a great deal of interest in intensity-based methods. One of the drawbacks to such methods is the need to create digitally reconstructed radiographs (DRRs) at each...
